August 13, 2022 is the full 5th anniversary of the disappearance of China's famous "human rights lawyer" Gao Zhisheng. On August 13, 2017, Gao Zhisheng, who was still under illegal house arrest, suddenly lost contact with everyone outside.
Chinese human rights lawyer Gao Zhisheng has been speaking for the underprivileged for a long time since he started practicing in 1996, and is known as "Chinese Conscience" because he defended Falun Gong practitioners, Chinese Christians, and the bottom-level farmers and private entrepreneurs. He was called “The bravest who dared to touch the most dangerous restricted area of the human rights movement”.
As a result, he was unjustly imprisoned and tortured, and suffered serious physical and psychological blows. He has been missing for 5 years without any news. It is unknown if he’s still alive or not. In 2020, Gao Zhisheng's sister couldn’t tolerate but to commit suicide by jumping into a river woing to the endless fear and torture brought by the Communist Party of China. In 2021, the brother-in-law of Ms. Geng he--Gao Zhisheng's wife even was persecuted and committed suicide by jumping off the building, the CCP has taken up the countless blood debts of lawyer Gao’s family. If the international community, human rights organizations, and just people continue to be helpless, it is not only a shame for today’s human beings, but also a sign that the CCP’s tyranny will threaten the safety of more people and persecute them.
At the painful time of the fifth anniversary of Gao Zhisheng's persecution and disappearance, his wife Geng He brought the statue of Gao Zhisheng to a ceremony in front of the Chinese Consulate in Los Angeles to show solidarity with the search for Gao Zhisheng, and to call on the world to pay attention to the human rights tragedy of Gao Zhisheng and countless disasters of human rights in China.
Democracy peers in Los Angeles will express solidarity with Ms. Geng He in finding Gao Zhisheng--the “Chinese Conscience” and express their greatest protest to the Chinese government.
